About Kota
Kota, formerly known as Kotah, is a city in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan. It is located 240 kilometres (149 mi) south of state capital, Jaipur. Situated on the banks of Chambal River, the city is the trade centre for an area in which millet, wheat, rice, pulses, coriander and oilseeds are grown; industries include cotton and oilseed milling, textile weaving, distilling, dairying, manufacture of metal handcrafts, fertilizers,chemicals and engineering equipments.
It is also known as the powerhouse of Rajasthan.[by whom?] It has fertile land and greenery with irrigation facilities through canal. Kota is one of the industrial hubs in northern India, with many chemical, engineering & power plants are based here. The rail junction, a road hub, lies 4.8 km (3 mi) to the north.
Kota is one of the principal cities of Rajasthan province. Kota has many educational facilities for pre-engineering, pre-IIT and pre-medical. Some institutes are Career Point, Vibrant Academy, bansal classes and Resonance Eduventures Pvt. Ltd. for pre-IIT and Allen Career Institute for pre-medical.
Education has in the recent years become a major part of the city’s economy. In recent years, it has become known as a major hub for specialized coaching for Engineering and Medical Entrance examinations, attracting several thousand students every year.
The city consistently produces a disproportionately high number number of successful candidates in several of these examinations, including the prestigious IIT-JEE.
(Kota had seen an influx of more than 75000 students in the year 2010.)

How to reach
Kota is very well connected with Road and Rail. It is also connected by air, although only chartered flights are currently available.
Roadways
National Highway 76
The district is well connected with neighbouring districts and with major cities outside the state. National highway No.12 (Jaipur—Jabalpur) and National Highway No.76 passes through the district. National Highway No.76 is a part of East-West Corridor. The total road length in the district is 2,052 km. as of 31 March 2011.
There are two bus stations in Kota:
Rajasthan roadways bus stand in Nayapura.
Inter-state bus terminal at DCM road.
Rawatbhatta Bus Stand at Ghode Baba Crossing.
Daily buses carry passengers inter-state as well as within the city.
Railways
Kota is well connected to most major cities in the state and outside it.It is one of the important station in Delhi-Mumbai main line. Kota Junction is one of the major junctions of the West Central Railway, headquartered in Jabalpur. The city of Kota is connected to all the metro cities and major cities of India. Kota has three direct trains to Kolkata. Kota has 4 railway stations namely Kota Junction. Another suburban station of South Kota city is Dakaniya Talav Railway station which has a stoppage of Avadh Express and Dehradun Express.
The city is also a halt for over 104 trains, including Garbha Express, Kolkata Express via Chopan – Daltonganj, Shalimar (Calcutta) Express via Tata Nagar, Marusagar Express, Jaipur – Durg Express, Dayodaya Express and the Rajdhani Express.
The Delhi—Mumbai railway line passes through the Kota junction. The district has 148.83 km of railway line in the Kota— Ruthia section, 98.72 km on Nagda—Mathura (Mumbai-Delhi) section and 24.26 km on Kota—Chittorgarh section.
A broad-gauge railway facility between Kota and Jodhpur via Jaipur exists.

The nearest major airport is located at Jaipur which operate flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Ahmedabad and most large cities in India.
